Francistown at a glance
Francistown is Botswana's second largest city located ca. 435km north-east of the capital city, in the North East district, however separately administered by the Francistown City Council as the City of Francistown administrative district.
The city benefits from good infrastructure, including an established internal road-network, as well as a surfaced-road networks which make Francistown the gateway to Zimbabwe, via the Ramokgwebana/ Plumtree Border Post and gives passage to Maun and Kasane/ Kazungula in the north of Botswana via Nata, and Gaborone in the south via Palapye. A rail network links Francistown to Harare (Zimbabwe) via Bulawayo and Gaborone/ Lobatse. In addition, the Francistown International Airport has flights to and from Gaborone and Johannesburg (South Africa).
The city offers: a diverse range of commercial and industrial business premises; a diverse range of residential properties; religious facilities; sporting and leisure facilities such as the Francistown Sports Stadium and Pomegranite Golf Resort & Spa; private and public schools from pre-primary through to tertiary, such as the renowned John Mackenzie School, Francistown Secondary School, University of Botswana and Francistown College of Technical and Vocational Education; major shopping centres such as Galo Mall, Nswazwi Mall and Nzano Mall offering supermarkets, restaurants and a great variety of chain stores; and a number of filling stations, banking and financial services. The city attracts tourists due to its' close proximity to the Domboshaba Heritage Site and its' position en-route to national parks, the Chobe River and the Okavango Delta in the northern parts of Botswana. The city has a good offering of tourism/ hotel properties catering for business and leisure travelers.
